Highland cattle are one of the oldest registered breeds of cattle with a herd book being established as far back as 1884. These robust animals are native to the Highlands and Western Isles of Scotland and are well-known for their long, thick hair and impressive horns. 

Their double coat of hair—not just their iconic long, wavy outer layer but also a downy undercoat—keeps them warm in the harshest of Scottish winters. What's more, their hair provides protection from wind and moisture, and Highland cattle are known to be capable of foraging for food in snowy conditions when other breeds would require shelter. This combination of traits has made them a symbol of rugged beauty and resilience.
